Bedford normal control J-type (with formed wheel-arch flange so not an A-type). Typically a J-type truck front end for 20-inch wheels for 5 tons or more. However for the prison van application a J2 or J3 chassis with 20 inch wheels, for increased ground clearance probably. Made locally by GM South Africa at Port Elizabeth, its likely some or all of the GMSA's smaller J2, J3 and J4 trucks did not have the low load height chassis with 16 inch wheels. |
