Assuming this car is on a genuine plate, this is one of the first run cars from the 18-22 Series (rather than a Princess)and is an Austin - identifiable by its trapezoidal headlights and Austin script on the right hand side of the grille. Sadly at this angle it's impossible to say whether it's an 1800 or 2200. Within 6 months of launch and with the introduction of the 'P' registration in August 1975, the range was simplified to become merely 'Princess' and the individual marques of Austin, Morris and Wolseley were dropped and subsequent cars carried just the Princess name, with a small crown badge on their bonnets. From then on, all 1800 models had twin headlights and the trapezoidal lights were reserved for the more powerful 2200 variants. Although Ford had the monopoly of product placement in the Sweeney, there is evidence that British Leyland made the effort to supply cars occasionally and there are certainly a few ADO71's to be seen around the time of their launch on the show. -- Last edit: 2007-01-20 17:18:33 |

The short lived (6 months) version of the 18-22 series/Princess, so an Austin 1800. The Austin-Morris versions of the ADO71 18-22 series did not have the chrome trim below the doors between the wheel arches, also missing here. Also the script (badge) on the front reads 'Austin' not 'Princess'. |
