Judging from the position of the door handle, the swage lines, the footwell ventilator and the design of the pressed steel wheels, I would say that this is a Tilly based on the Phase I Hillman Minx. The saloon had four doors, so it should be just about possible to have a four door break body on this model. -- Last edit: 2014-12-09 09:22:31 |

http://www.oldclassiccar.co.uk/commer-van.htm The Commer Express van had a larger load space, overlapping the cab as in this example. I could not find a post ww2 picture, this is based on a Minx Magnificent, but the front end kept up with the changes as per the Minx. /vehicle_444523-Commer-8cwt-Express-1948.html One Phase II van on the database. -- Last edit: 2014-12-09 12:30:55 |

Something similar to /vehicle_186537-Hillman-Minx-Phase-I-Estate-Conversion-1940.html ?? Our set of Hillman Light Utility have high roofs. |

^Perhaps the predecessor to the post-war Hillman 'Ten' estate, which had an all-steel body? Vehicle basis appears to be the Commer Van and/or Hillman Utility rather than Minx Saloon, since the glass is without the Minx's draught-free vents at the top of the door. So not likely a saloon conversion. Possibly a factory sanctioned estate, outsourced for the 'woody' body, that was produced in only small volumes for RAF use, or a civilian production model that was suspended because of wartime restrictions? -- Last edit: 2020-10-03 15:15:54 |
