If fordguy or taxiguy wish to sort them out... -- Last edit: 2009-06-29 10:12:31 |

It's too much of a headache stronghold The only thing I can say is that most of them appear to be 1999 or 2000 models. They might possibly be Commercial Taxi Package cars, but I can't confirm. But they're all more or less within the 1998-2000 range (in fact, I only see one 1998), so there's no real need to sort them out. The cars in the last thumbnail are toys/scale models. |

Unrelated, but: If anyone is interested, there are only ~35 Crown Vics in NYC right now.. They will all finish their Taxi service in May this year, some will be put under crusher, others will be sold to collectors or Ford enthusiasts; NYPD also has 1-2 cars as a Highway Patrol. Also NYC Sheriff's office and Auxiliary Squads have about 5-10 vehicles |

Huh, I thought all Crown Vic NYC taxicabs had been retired years ago because of the law requiring taxis to be replaced after 6 years |

This is true. But I think TLC has made exceptions for CV since its NYC symbol, like Checker cabs. Plus some Crown Vics are still in good condition and have low mileage (150-180k miles): This is mainly due to the fact that personal owners operators paid for the medallion and they have no reason to beat the car or lead to 600k miles. By the way, the same thing will happen to 2012 MKZ Hybrid, which will also retire this year (https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8495/8408452683_d025a0911a_z.jpg) I think soon 08-12 Escape Hybrids also disappear from streets like Crown Vics... |

In Abu Dhabi about 1990, my colleague had hired a Ford LTD Crown Victoria. I said “why did you hire a car this big for just two of us?” He said. “When you see the way they drive round here you will understand that I want as much metal round me as I can get.” |

Commercial Taxi Package [P72]. it's more or less a suggestion than a actual law anybody follows it seems largely because taxis are in better condition then when the law was passed in 1994 (which was the law's intention, to keep taxi fleets in good condition since a lot of cabs get wear and tear coupled with bad maintenance at some garages) |

The MKZ made its last ride on 31st of october 2021 indeed. The last 2008 models licensed 2A39 and 3A41 were both withdrawn from service on the 11th of october 2018. 27th of june 2022 and 12th of september 2022 for the last 2009 models (medallions 1G58 and 9B95). On the 3 that were running a month ago, 2 are still on the road, licensed 5D88 and 9C81 (both 2011 models), the third licensed 8C96 (2012 model) last checked 16th of may and was replaced the day after. The last two Crown Vics operating back in december 2022, 6D76 and 1F88, still serve as of today (on about 224 in the first days of 2017): Medallion - date of withdrawal 7Y13 - 04/01/2021 8D56 - 04/02/2021 4F61 - 21/02/2021 2C35 - 02/03/2021 6C70 - 24/03/2021 V120 - 05/05/2021 3D44 - 28/05/2021 1G94 - 13/06/2021 6A34 - 23/06/2021 1G41 - 11/08/2021 9C15 - 29/08/2021 7B92 - 15/09/2021 4B68 - 26/11/2021 6B63 - 05/12/2021 1A86 - 29/12/2021 8B48 - 17/01/2022 3E43 - 07/02/2022 4B29 - 20/03/2022 3D18 - 28/03/2022 6A84 - 30/03/2022 8C98 - 16/05/2022 1F88 - 31/05/2022 7D36 - 07/06/2022 2W34 - 21/06/2022 9L73 - 27/06/2022 1A21 - 29/06/2022 2H85 - 07/07/2022 1E44 - 20/07/2022 5F55 - 02/08/2022 1E37 - 03/08/2022 5F39 - 10/08/2022 2H85 - 04/12/2022 6D76 - still in service 1F88 - still in service -- Last edit: 2023-06-02 01:10:25 |
