Confirmation needed. Listed without a picture as Plymouth Fury? The main vehicle in this 'Road Movie'. -- Last edit: 2014-12-09 21:07:20 (walter) |

Looks more as a Dodge Polara 1973 |

Not really more important than the 1956 Roadmaster shown. Not a 5 star rating... |

Because it is. |

On what basis do you say that? Although I did not set the star ratings I do tend to agree with them. The Buick is on screen for eight minutes compared to the highway patrol car is in constant use for 1 hour 20 minutes? The main point of the movie is the highway patrolman being taken hostage and forced to drive to Sugarland with everyone in pursuit. |

I absolutely agree with Sunbar: I think that it deserves 5 stars, because the movie is pratically set in it for nearly all the running time. It was used for all the movie, and most of the dramatic scenes were ambiented into this car. |

The vehicle shown is a 1973 Dodge Polara. The vehicle in which the rear view is shown in the top post is a 1969 Plymouth Fury. |

For all practical purposes, this Polara was the "set" in which most of the movie's drama transpired. After the film wrapped, I understand that Steven Spielberg actually used it as his daily driver for a while, riddled with prop bullet holes and all. I've actually seen a photo of him sitting in the driver's seat with the door open. Anyone here know more of the story? |

That is a 1973 Dodge Polara Pursuit Package. It was equipped with a 440ci 4bbl Super Commando and a 727 automatic Torque Flite Pursit Transmission. Capable of reaching top speeds of 157 Mph. Compression ratio of the 440 Super Commando V8 was around 8:1. The equipment used in this Polara Pursuit Package was a General Electric Progress Line Low-Band VHF Two-Way radio, a Regency Monitoradio 10 channel Scanner, a MARS Skybolt Deluxe Lightbar, and a Sireno Siren Control. -- Last edit: 2013-02-16 04:33:23 |
