Isn't that a Saleen version as currently listed? |

I thought it was decided that since this car would have to be registerd as a ford mustang that they would be listed as Ford Mustang Saleen S281 |

I do not know, as on their site they are shown as just Saleen S281. |

yes but still started life as a mustang and has a vin # that classifies it as a mustang |
◊ 2007-01-19 22:37 |
sam as we have Brabus V12, Alpina B6 etc etc - they also started their lives as something else ![]() |
◊ 2007-01-19 22:38 |
BUT THOSE LOOK COMPLETLY DIFFERENT AND ARE REGISTERED DIFFERENT ARE THEY NOT |

Well, maybe that in USA they register using the base model and not the new make? And the Saleen looks different from a Mustang like an Alpina looks different from a BMW. btw, your capslock key is again locked ![]() -- Last edit: 2007-01-19 22:42:35 |

So a Alpina looks just like a BMW with a body Kit on it? Here Saleen/ Rousch etc, etc do not have Make status |
◊ 2007-01-19 23:08 |
well body kit and engine etc tuned - pretty same as here ![]() |

these are listed as Mustangs...that's my vote is Mustang and Saleen as an extra: /vehicle_770-Ford-Mustang-1996.html /vehicle_80318-Ford-Mustang-1999.html it's not like they built the mustang....maybe took it apart and rebuilt it, but it's still a mustang to most people. |

Would a registered Ford dealership touch one of these for repairs? or would it have to go back to Saleen? -- Last edit: 2007-01-19 23:37:14 |

It probably depends on parts availability. If I'm not mistaken, most Saleens would be sold through certain Ford dealerships, and those dealerships would undoubtedly be able to handle repairs (especially warranty claims), but the non-Saleen dealerships might have trouble with ordering parts. At the same time though, many dealership service departments are willing to work on cars they don't sell. |

A FORD dealership cannot market, order, take delivery, sell, repair or perform scheduled maintenance on a Saleen product unless Saleen "certifies" the dealership first. A Ford dealership that wants to market, sell, etc. a Saleen product must contact Saleen directly to begin the Certification process. It should be noted that Certification is not easy, it is very demanding for a dealership. Not all Ford dealerships get certified. |

This car is a Saleen S281, NOT a Saleen Mustang. It really depends on what model is a Saleen Mustang and whats NOT a Saleen Mustang. And as for Saleen itself, Ruf is the same way with Porsches and both Saleen and Ruf is regocnized by the Government(American and German) as manufactures, not tuners. Plus these manufactures are INDEPENDENT companies. -- Last edit: 2009-09-14 23:48:47 |
