"Export or die."

Mr. Attlee said that he needed forex to pay off the war debts, and decided to restrict steel supplies if firms failed to meet export quotas. Life in the UK had been so miserable after the end of WW2, notwithstanding the introduction of the National Health Service, that the electorate chucked him out, bringing back the other lot, who were the fortunate recipients of a general upturn in world economies, leading to "you've never had it so good".

The A40 Devon was about as suitable for the U.S. Market as a box of matches in a refinery, and the A90 was equally poorly received. American drivers wanted space and a V-8 engine, the A40 was small and had a weedy four cylinder effort, the A90 still had four cylinders and was expensive.
