![]() ![]() Onscreen long enough to deserve a page in case identifiable. Difficult to get good capture because of shrubbery, and a big van shoots past in the middle ![]() And another big truck for fun ![]() |

The eight legger is an Atkinson, and the other big truck for fun is a prewar Foden DG. -- Last edit: 2015-06-12 10:22:41 |

British Road Services probably by the door's appearance.![]() source: http://www.na3t.org/road/photo/Hu06314 Have not been able to decode the model designation but is L 1586 most likely? (18-22 tonner possibly?) |

L 1586 is quite likely, Long chassis 15 tons 8 wheels 6 cylinders possibly plus G for Gardner, I don't think Atki's of this age used much else but Gardner power. |

Quote "Atkinson .... entered the eight wheeler market in 1937 with the L1586, a handsome "assembled" lorry using Gardner, David Brown and Kirkstall running units. An improved model L1586, popularly referred to as the "Bow-Front" was introduced in 1952. It became a classic of the Fifties." - Link to "www.ebay.co.uk" Onscreen at least, the door rosette is distinctive and I did wonder about it being the BRS logo like ![]() seen a lot in this film /movie_1726822-Wealth-of-the-World--Transport.html |

BRS had a total monopoly on long distance haulage in the early 1950s that was only relaxed very rarely under strict terms for some uses I believe. Therefore seeing BRS vehicles would be common at the time of filming, in early 1954 they started transferring some of their fleet back into private ownership, members of the Road Haulage Association. Thanks to your data I finally found brief details of the bow front Atkinsons' introduction in April 1952 |

Atkinson didn't use a G suffix for Gardner, only a letter for non-Gardner engines. At that time, the only other option would have been an AEC engine, which would be an L1586A |
