Ep. 1: Ep. 6: The circuit scenes were filmed somewhere in a place called "Brands Hatch" but I don't know if it's that circuit for real... |

'Brands Hatch' is very real a military base in Kent (south east of London) that became a famous racing circuit. -- Last edit: 2015-10-21 17:35:15 |

Brands Hatch was a former RAF base too? So, then, actually how many British racing circuits were not former airbases? |

I know the circuit, but I don't know how it was in 1966. I can suppose that changed a bit in these 49 years... |

I thought it was an airbase but Wikipedia says it was just a Military Parking area! Who am I to say otherwise? -- Last edit: 2015-10-21 17:41:26 |

A quick search shows... RAF Silverstone, RAF Snetterton Heath and RAF Thruxton were airbases. Donington Park and Brands Hatch were military vehicle storage depots. Anyone know more? |

I don't think Brands Hatch was a former air base, although was used during WW2 for military purposes. Any landscaped circuit (eg Crystal Palace, Cadwell Park, Oulton Park etc) would have been purpose-built, as airfields have to be flat .... eg Silverstone, Croft, Goodwood. Many other disused WW2 airfield sites saw some motor-racing use in 50s and 60s but only short term and long since abandoned. Knockhill in Scotland was developed from the service roads for a coal mine, Aintree was built within the Racecourse and used the same grandstands as horse racing. |

(Hihihi… Only my memory gave me Silverstone as former RAF base… But I see that, while searching and first finding Goodwood, you men had done the job already. Nevertheless, I keep on searching… Thruxton is a former RAF base too, and Snetterton. And I had never heard about Croft before dsl mention.) |

RAF Podington Bedfordshire is now the Santa Pod Raceway drag strip. |

Wheels look like Cooper. Maybe Cooper T53???? |

The signwriting doesn't look very British. Perhaps they filmed at a racing circuit in Italy. |

Could well be I suppose, but I've no idea of what were the filming locations, except for the evident shots in England. |

The "Brands Hatch" shots do not look very English - more like warm bits of Europe with hot trees etc. |

Compare thumbnail 2 to this shot of Brands Hatch in the 1960s The building is similar but not the same, the car is going in the wrong direction (anticlockwise circuit not clockwise) and the pit lane is on the wrong side). The pit lane was on the inside of the circuit by the control tower and was reached by a tunnel from the paddock on the outside, at Brands Hatch. I am almost certain you are right not in the UK very similar type of circuit to Brands Hatch but not the same. |
