Syrena 100, with full-height doors ...or do we call them just Syrena? -- Last edit: 2014-03-07 21:15:14 |

Just "Syrena", like it is listed - "100" was given to early ones later, when the 101 was introduced. To be honest early 101 had these doors too. |

Don't tell me!!!.. I've tried to tidy up an article on Syrena on Polish Wikipedia recently (btw: I encourage you to help! - check out http://pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dyskusja_wikipedysty:Pitak#Syrena ), and I found popular sources scarse and conflicting... I thought, that this one thing can be attributed for sure. (jeśli byś rzucił tam okiem, weź poprawkę, że na początku nieco błądziłem, a artykuł wyglądął przed moimi poprawkami inaczej. Wspomniane zdjęcia z Muzeum Inżynierii Miejskiej sa tutaj https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:FSO_Syrena_101 ) -- Last edit: 2014-03-07 21:41:46 |

FSO modified the car on a regular basis during the production period and then, when they judged that enough many things have been modifed, they renamed it to the next model. So the "new model" - new badge - should be treated more as summary of changes done for example in the last year. This way Syrenas of one type (for example 101) can differ a lot between each other - early 101 look nearly identical with the "100" and late ones nearly same like the 102. But the most important perhaps and for sure the worst thing, which has to cause most of the confusions today is, that back then factory (with help of car magazines used now as sources) described these modifications as characteristic for the "new model". This way we can often read today (even in the very good books of A. Zieliński), that e.g. the short boot lid is a 1962+ Syrena 102 thing, when in fact it was used already since 1961 in 101 (the discussed car on the wiki page can be original, especialy with these taillamps - 102 should have already the new ones, but I won't risk and say that since first day of production ). In this situation the most reliable source have to be the spare parts catalogues, real ones, not this of the 104 we can buy today, which isn't helpful at all. The old ones I do not have, BUT(!) I have excellent articles based on them written few years ago to "Automobilista" (3/2008, 4/2008) by Krzysztof Sachs. Spróbuję coś tam dodać do wiki, wkrótce powinienem być w miejscu, w którym mam te artykuły. P.S. W seryjnych atrapa i cały pas przedni były takie same od "100" do 102 (włącznie). -- Last edit: 2014-03-07 23:42:48 |
