Shiny scuttle plate on both cars seems to be Taxi Mk1 in our collection instead of Super Taxi Mk2. Which suggests these are very late Mk1 as changeover seems to have been in 1923. |

Correct dsl, yes I assumed wrongly based on the date! The MkII Super taxicab was introduced 1n 1923. (source: http://www.lvta.co.uk/history.htm). Cannot find it in the CM Archive at the moment. A provincial town and city version was exhibited at Olympia in November 1925 named the 'Fifteen Standard' (The Beardmore was rated at 15.6hp). Source: CM Archive. -- Last edit: 2016-01-31 19:30:22 |

Update: from the limited and conflicting information available; some sources assume the Mk.II was introduced in 1923 when the wing form was improved but chassis and other improvements were, apparently, introduced in 1925 as the Mk.II 'Super'... New Super Beardmore prior to February 1926. Possibly within the previous few months, and not in 1923. Link to "archive.commercialmotor.com" 1925 Beardmore Super Taxi Mk.II, shaped pressing for bulkhead. 1923 Beardmore Taxi Mk.I, Flat bulkhead with scuttle plate, more rounded wing profile. 1919 Beardmore Taxi Mk.I, Flat bulkhead with scuttle plate, flat wing profile. -- Last edit: 2016-01-31 19:55:14 |
