Sgt. Joe Friday (Dan Aykroyd) narrating: "After losing the two previous vehicles we had been issued, the only car the department would release to us at this point was an unmarked 1987 Yugo...a Yugoslavian import donated as a test vehicle by the government of that country and reflecting the cutting edge of Serbo-Croatian technology." |

I believe Yugo's sold in the US didn't have any series names. Not sure though. ![]() |

In Europe there known as Zastava Yugo (Zastava being the make, Yugo the model). I believe they come in two versions, the 45 and the 55. Not sure what the difference is, I'd say this is a 55 because of the go-faster stripes and front spoiler. European Yugo's didn't have the side indicator lights. I estimate production began in '85 and stopped in '99. |

"The cutting edge of Serbo-Croatian technology " eh? The Yugo 45 was nothing more than a cheapened and ruined Fiat 127. |

The early prototypes were tested in Italy(into Turin's neighbours) at end of Seventies'by Fiat(were internally codified by Fiat"tipo 144",but if tested for count of Zastava);pre-production model was shown at 1980 Beograd M.S.and model name at times was still spelled Jugo at home;regular production starts in 1981;in USA were marketed for the 1st time since 1985 -- Last edit: 2007-02-23 00:25:20 |

They came in more versions, the 45, 55, 60 and 65. The numbers equal HP. They European Yugos have side indicator lights only smaller and behind the front fender. Production began in 1981 and with some ups, downs & facelifts continues to this day. The company also builds Mk2b Puntos as Zastava 10 now. Zastava Yugos were a simple little car for the people. Easy to drive, run and fix. Going to US was a mistake though, but it wasn't the company's move, a businessman known for sorta wacko moves imported them. Oh well. ![]() |

Very Good! Yes The man resposible for Yugos on American Soil was Malcom Bricklin, a Canadian who built his own Safety sports car in the mid 70s called the Bricklin, He also imported the First Subarus in to the States and rumor is he is behind at least One soon to be imported Chinese car to America |

I assume that the lights on American versions are sidemarkers. In the UK at least, "indicators" means what Americans call turn signals. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Automotive_lighting#Sidemarker_lights |

Malcolm Bricklin is an American, he just built his own car (the SV1) in New Brunswick. |
