S-type or 420. My hunch is 420 - front looks further forward/sharp-edged in thumb glimpse. |

It looks to be an S-type to me, by the chrome strip running through the door handles extending through the full bonnet length. From the pictures I can find, on the 420 it only extended for a short distance onto the scuttle panel and not the bonnet. |

Well spotted - agreed. A clear 420 picture with trim end ... from /vehicle_58953-Jaguar-420-XJ16-1967.html No use here because it's got wires, but I've now spotted another clue to separate S-Type and 420 - the hubcaps changed from flatter style inherited from Mk2 with Jaguar written logo in central lozenge to new round Jag head logo with prominent surround, which stayed in use well into the XJ6 era |
