 Mercury, indeed. With this kind of vertical rear fenders, it's a 1951 Series 1CM [M-72B] coupe. (But it's missing some of the chrome trim.)

 This is a cool car , I happen to own it know bought it from the grandson i was told of the original owner , I got all sorts of papers with it, concerning its use in several movies over the years,
