For what it's worth, a trivia entry on the IMDB says this is a Zastava 750. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0837156/trivia |

Only Zastava's car imported into USA was Yugo, so it's impossible that it is Zastava 750. -- Last edit: 2016-03-16 09:55:26 |

Today people from Eastern Europe can buy cars from North America. The opposite way - Americans buy East European cars - is possible. Skodas in Florida (scroll down). Fiat 126p samples from US. And most popular, Trabants in US. |

It's over 25 years old, so it is possible. Are there ways to tell them apart? Not sure how reliable the source is at IMDB. Could be somebody who ID'd it with the first matching image on Google. I haven't seen any insider information about it. -- Last edit: 2016-03-16 21:05:12 |

I don't know enough about these to say anything definite, but it's odd. I think of this colour as about 1966-67 as it was typical of many 500 F in UK at the time, so possibly too new for the car, especially one with rear hinged doors. So if a genuine Fiat as sold in US early 60s, it's been renovated. For it to be a Zastava 750, then production would have had to start in rear-hinged period (no idea if they did or it was only later front-hinged production) and would almost certainly be a recent one-off personal import. |

Zastava 600 was assembled already in 1950s. At the turn of 1961 and 1962 full Yugoslav production of Zastava 750 started. 1st it was identical with Fiat 600 D, but later was produced longer with suicide doors than Fiat. Some claim that first "non-suicide" 750s date back to 1967, but even if it is true, such cars couldn't be mass produced/main models before late 1969/70 - judging by the period articles (and cars imported to Poland back then). The one in movie can be Zastava 750, though I think canvas top had to be something rare in this model and: Personally I have similar doubts. -- Last edit: 2016-03-16 22:01:57 |

There are two cars. In the main picture (Bigger tail lights, 1962+ ashtray in the centre of the dash, 1964+ colour) 1964 Fiat 600 D. In the first thumb slightly darker colour, less rear air scoops and smaller tail lights: 1959 600. Only Fiats were sold in the USA but this is a Fiat imported much later since it hasn't got the larger headlights which were fitted on those cars exported at the time to the USA. This colour was added in March 1964 but in May the doors switched to front hinged ones, Therefore this particular car (if the colour is the original one) was built between March 1964 and the end of April 1964. -- Last edit: 2016-12-13 17:08:36 |
