Arriving at Dalmeny, close to the Forth bridge. This page is for all the Fordson supply trucks - which may or may not be the same type of Sussex 3 ton 6x4 [E917T] as the balloon trucks - the verdict of The Grand Council of Experts is eagerly awaited. Again loads and loads of them in the mega-convoy: Plates seen include RMC 994 (Nov 38 onwards) RMG 6, and RMG 975 (main) (March 39 onwards) - all are again Middlesex series issued to War Department. |

Yes Fordson Sussex , these were exclusive to the RAF and they continued the theme with the post war Thames Trader 6x4, both conversions by County Commercials of Fleet Hampshire which must have kept them busy ! |

Initially, on the 1935 Fordson BBE, County Commercials did the conversions; later they supplied the parts and Ford actually built the trucks as 6x2 and 6x4 from scratch, keeping the Surry and Sussex names. Interesting to see non-balloon winch vehicles and I guess they should be E917T chassis as well? -- Last edit: 2016-03-23 17:03:09 |

Because of the high number of accidents reducing vehicle usage, barrage balloon squadrons had permission to remove headlight masks and run during essential operations at night-time with headlights in use. |
