Yes - a new one for me. Seems we could even think about calling it a Triumph 1500. That article says ZA assembly also used the 1500 engine which is worth remembering. Also noted in passing that the NZ assembled successor Toledo was uniquely 1500, not 1300 as UK. |

Total assembly numbers were 2,493 1300s and 1,223 1500s. We have three Triumph 1300s assembled on Israel, so we can rename one to 1500. |

The sad biker is not sad at all. He is quite right, indeed, and this looks an earlier 1300 than 1968. My father traded a 13/60 estate for a Valencia Blue 1300 in late 1967 (RML 161F) whose front discs were always very squealy. A nicely made car on which one honed one's skills as a new driver. In turn the 1300 was swapped for its newly-introduced replacement, a 1500 (UTT 196J) in the winter of 1970/71. British Leyland replaced the 1300 with the lower quality Toledo, initially as a 2-door 1296cc. car. I've no knowledge of cars like that illustrated having a 1500cc. engine, unless it were an 'after market' fitment. Wikipedia covers the model's history pretty well, as ever. -- Last edit: 2016-08-25 05:19:56 |
