ALU579 is said to be a rare 'Chinese Austin Taxi' and being a hybrid conversion with old Citroën body, does not appear on the Mann & Overton listing of new cabs at the time. In 1933 bodies were removed from old London General Citroën taxis and put on new Austin chassis. These were quickly named 'Chinese Austin Taxis' by the drivers.
