This is not a Speedster which is bilt on a shortened chassis. The car is a 1935 Duesenberg JN Disappearing Top Convertible on long wheelbase. The connection to Clark Gable / Carol L£ombard Lombard seems verified. It belongs or belonged to the Blackhawk Collection. JN is the later designation for the Duesenberg Model J without supercharger. Chromed pipes not necessarily specify a supercharged engine, this device was available on standard enines optionally. As some J / JN were later fitted with the supercharger, it is not possible to decide if this car has one or not. The body was made by Bohman & Schwartz who had a reputation for elaborate choachwork. -- Last edit: 2007-03-15 16:38:57 |

In fact , this car was initially bodied by Rollston as a Convertible Coupe ,and is characterised by Rollston's semi modern but not fully skirted front fenders. Clark Gable is said to have ordered a restyle of the original body by Bohmann and Schwarz of Pasadena Cal to enhance its sporty look.Hence the names of the 2 coachbuilders correctly indicated here. |

I just came across some additions and corrections concerning this car. JN is a kind of developement on the J chassis. It got a longer wheelbase of 153 inches and detail changes that alllowed hiding the frame rails, thus giving the JN a more modern, sleeker overall appearance. A supercharged SJN also was offered, but I don\'t know if one was built. Only 10 JN chassis were built as the last series Duesenberg. All went to Rollston for coachwork. To enhance this, JNs were available with steel disc wheels. The Clark Gable car had these too, following old pictures of the car. Correct Designation is 1935 Duesenberg Model JN Rollston Convertible Coupé with alterations by Bohman & Schwartz; Chassis # 2585, engine # J-560 |

Well, that's not your fault, it is just to explain why I did not include a very detailed name when I renamed the car according your comment ![]() All the info that you can give is of course welcome (thanks for these, btw): that's why there is a comment area on the pages. -- Last edit: 2007-03-31 00:16:55 |
