1947 or 1948 model year |

If my information is correct, this should be an early '47. The late '47's and the '48's had the KAISER letters on the hood attached by a chrome band at the bottom. |

OK commander57 -Now is it a Special (Model K-100) with 65,062 units produced or a Custom (Model K-101) with 5,412 units produced?? |

Tyres with withewall, quad overriders, rocker decorative slat... It could be early (Sept 1947+) Custom. |

Hmm..... My sources say the Custom had bright windshield molding and rocker trim. The subject car appears to have the latter but not the former! (Take your pick, I guess.) |

shouldn't the custom have a script on fender? what do we know about trimline on side skirts, are they a feature of K-101 custom? isn't it more plausible that a Taxi is a Special pimped with some extras by its loving owner. BTW this was the idol of german 1949 Borgward Hansa 1500 |

Those points are valid. I'm inclined to go ahead an list as a Special pending the receipt of any additional information. |

While it is true that only the Custom had rocker trim, the rocker trim on this car is not the original type and the hood ornament is not factory either. The hood ornament looks like 1949/50 Mercury. As already pointed out, a Custom would have Custom script on the fender flank and would clearly be visible in this photo. -- Last edit: 2017-04-29 22:35:15 |
