A few years later it became much different. If I see pics of the late-60ies and newer Spanish made movies, I have the impression, that all cars and trucks around there were made/assembled in Spain, so nearly the whole French car-range. I own a little, but good example for the very decent car-import in Spain in the early 70ies, the VW-export-statistics 1971-75. Compared with other countries in this size, with a similar population and economic power, it was nearly nothing. I guess, there had been many strict regulations in Spain. Probably until the EU-times. -- Last edit: 2009-07-07 22:36:51 |

Ingo, you got it. The high taxes you had to pay to import a car made it impossible to general population. The reason was simple: if you can not buy a German, French, British or US car you must buy ONLY cars made in Spain. That way the goverment kept in a high production spanish cars factories and all the jobs of them. From 1977 on -and specially from 1986 on- the matter changed...luckily Most of the pics are from Plaza Cibeles in Madrid. If you stop there only for a few time you'll see the difference. -- Last edit: 2009-07-07 22:29:10 |
