True. As near as I can estimate (by counting number of frames to travel approximately the length of the car) the Aston is travelling through the air at only about 55mph (or 90kph). 'Take-off speed' would not be a lot less, so I guess well below 60 mph. This is assuming its in 'real-time', as it appears to be, and not speeded-up or slowed-down. -- Last edit: 2008-01-15 21:59:13 |

90 kph seems plausible judging by the height the DB4 has attained, which would impress even Tiff Needell. I remember Arthur Mullard recounting the filming of the scene in interview, around the time of his 'Yus, My Dear' series. Apparently, such emergency service officers as were present on set opined that the occupants were lucky to have alighted alive, but I don't know what state the Aston was in after its yump. Probably a Saab 96 didn't suit the storyline. |

"DB4GT/0167/R (40 MT) - Works experimental and demonstration car. Lightweight chassis. Engine to Zagato spec. Engine 370/0206/GT fitted for nine months in 1962. Replaced DB4GT/0157/R (41 DPX) for final shots after its engine blew up during filming" - http://astonuts.free.fr/PAGES/DP207E.html As filmed, seems to have normal headlights rather than GT, but I'll follow the experts. Things may not have been consistent on an experimental car?? "A very special car, one of very few factory lightweight GTs ever built, Ex-works development car used for the Autosport road test in December 1961. Many unique features, a real reference car with amazing provenance, regarded as the very best DB4GT in existence" - Link to "www.tomhartleyjnr.com" . OK - agreed. This is a normal DB4 with unknown plate - re-instating ID as entered before I changed it to GT. |
