A40 Devon van/estate car, possibly built on a GVR5 chassis/scuttle. The apparent lengthening may be due to the angle from which the pictures are taken. I did wonder if it was a Hampshire at first, but the shape of the swage on the doors is definitely Devon. http://classiccars.brightwells.com/viewdetails.php?id=5414 http://www.austinworks.com/scuttles.html -- Last edit: 2018-10-17 10:08:47 |

Seems Devon-based Countryman launched Sept 48 as GP2, new grille treatment May 51 GP3, Aug 51 became GP4 with column change and full hydraulic brakes, Oct 54 became GP5 (no details of changes), Oct 56 discontinued. I think this is first grille GP2. |

It looks to have horizontally split two piece tailgate rather than van style doors.![]() |

Unexpected legs caused what I thought was long rear overhang ![]() ![]() although googling for pictures shows some Countrymen with vertical doors as well - 1953 example - ![]() (unless they're windowed vans) so maybe it changed to van format for simplicity during production. |
