indeed. It's just our fourth US-spec DKW and the first F11/12/Junior P.S. I just read, that 1.215 Wartburg 311 were exported to the USA Did anyone here know that? -- Last edit: 2019-03-02 18:38:51 (dsl) |

I looked this up a few days ago when it was first posted but the book is confusing. DKWs seem to have been listed in US 1954-65 with 3-6 range until 1959, alongside from 1958 Auto Union 1000 Coupe and Convertible. Then 1960-62 DKW 750 (Junior?), DKW 1000 and wider Auto Union 1000 range (adding 4-door saloon, 2-door estate), with Mercedes-Benz acting as distributors from 1960. 1963 just 3 models, all DKW - Junior Deluxe saloon, 1000 S coupe, and 1000 estate. Then 1964-65 the first F references as just F11 2-door Sedan, F12 2-door Sedan and F12 Roadster. Sales were 2268 in 1959, 2000+ in 1961, and just over 1000 in 1962 - no other years or numbers given. So for 1962 film seems DKW 750 or 1000 name?? Wartburg 311 seems to be listed 1956-66, distributed by Wartburg of America Inc in Brooklyn, with a full choice of saloons, 2 and 4 door estates, convertible and coupe, and 1962 upgrade from 900cc to 1000c. 140 sold in 1958, 403 in 1959, and 240 in 1960 - no other figures/years mentioned, and there is a text comment that distribution actually stopped in early 1960s. |
