In the DVD Commentary Director Bruce Robinson points out that this is his Aston Martin. I think this also featured in his second film How to Get Ahead in Advertising. /vehicle_28109-Aston-Martin-DB4-1962.html He says it's a 1961 model, but I don't think the convertible was released until 1962. http://www.channel4.com/4car/ft/feature/feature/7434/2 -- Last edit: 2007-10-05 00:04:04 |

The DB4 Convertible was launched at the Earls Court London Motor Show in October 1961 and so it's considered a 1962 model. |

Thanks for the info! So what year should we list it as? |

The others are listed 1962 since one of the "rules" of the site is to consider the model year when giving the first year of a vehicle. In the case of British makers, for instance, for a long time it was in the occasion of the London Motor Show that took place in September or October. Usually when a model is launched from the summer until the end of the year, is considered a next year's model. In certain cases ( depending on the makers ) it could happen even earlier. |

One of the people who gave Robinson inspiration for the character of Withnail was a man called Jonathon Withnall who Robinson looked up to as a kid, he also had an Aston Martin and once backed it into a police car, but Robinson said the way he handled it made him look like the coolest man he'd ever met. This inspired his lifelong fondess for classic Aston Martins. -- Last edit: 2007-10-05 02:24:04 |
