Another poser ... these so-called 'Queen Mary' semi-trailers were normally pulled by OY Bedfords, although according to some accounts Commers were also used, but this is neither. The radiator looks like Leyland, but nothing else does. Could it be a Crossley? (Help!!) |

It is undoubtedly a Crossley and many of these towed Queen Mary semi trailers. There must be a model number probably RAF or maybe IGL. |

1943 Crossley Q-Type Tractor as here... http://www.norman-watkins.com/QueenMary.htm The 'Donkey' appears to be a nickname. Built from 1943 onwards the tractor version was built in types 1,2 and 3 with various differences in engine etc. I cannot say which type the movie truck is but the cab is possibly an earlier design (the cabs were also made by manufacturers other than Crossley). The link would show a simpler cab used later in the war as easier to produce. source: http://www.crossley-motors.org.uk/history/military.html -- Last edit: 2008-05-05 17:36:33 |
