Reminds me of a US Ford Vanette, but with a different windshield. |

Looks like a Ford grille as well |

Wondering if it's a film crew vehicle accidentally wandering into shot - might have camera platform gubbins on the roof. Beyond my pay grade but these 1960s Dinkys included Commer and Karrier coachbuilds for BBC. |

Looks very similar to another unknown film unit / TV outside broadcast vehicle that I remember. Bedford or Commer both possible. |

Cropped and enlarged also seen here /vehicle_1832892.html Samuelson Film Services looks possible but nothing found from searching images of their vehicles. Bedford or Commer based possibly similar to Hawson easy access body? |

In last thumb all of the marker lights on upper bodywork say USA to me. We Brits at this time were still getting used to having to fit two tail lights -- Last edit: 2024-03-01 07:32:16 |

Cautious agreement - I don't know Vanettes at all, but looks right, and no other ideas. I wonder how/why it crossed the pond. |

From the comments here /v227639.html the "Vanette" van was also built on Dodge (DurAvan?) and Chevrolet/GMC chassis. Link to "davidsclassiccars.com" I'm completely out of my depth here to make any firm conclusion. -- Last edit: 2024-03-01 13:51:06 |

As a guess or possible scenario, Samuelson Film Services were the UK source for Panavision camera equipment from the USA. I'm guessing the truck is about 1951-1961 so possibly an ex-Panavision Inc. vehicle that included some necessary support equipment? If it was a Samuelson Film Services truck in 1971, it was probably listed as 'Sam-Mobile II' for location hire, without a specific make, in their 1973 catalogue, (Other vehicles were Commer 1-ton, BMC 2-ton, Commer Walk-Thru, Mini-Moke, Ford Transit & Land-Rover lwb). edit: not 'Sam-Mobile II' as it was based on a BMC truck. -- Last edit: 2024-03-02 13:00:14 |
