Thanks for recommended banger134: This Car is an 1979 or 1980 UK "Talbot Alpine / Talbot 1510". 1976 European Car of the Year! The "Chrysler Alpine" and its French brother, the "Chrysler-SIMCA 1307/1308", were important cars for Chrysler Europe, as they were the first of a range of Pan-European cars. They sold well in France, but did not do quite so well in the UK. In the case of the Alpine/1308 range, the 1979 cars were renamed the "Talbot-Simca 1510" in France and "Talbot Alpine" in the UK. http://www.rootes-chrysler.co.uk/car-development/dev-alpine.html -- Last edit: Mr.60 |

I chose two of these in succession as compny cars, 1979 to 1983. The car shown has non- standard wheel trims. The later ones had 'colour keyed' plastic bumpers. I liked mine, though was fed up with it by the time I got rid of the second one. It was surprisingly fast despite a rather small '1400' engine- though a bit noisy. The front wheel drive was still rather uncommon at that date. It was up against the Ford Cortina which was the best selling British car of the time but boring! The hatch back idea was then quite a modern feature- and useful, since I then had a young family. |
