I think it is a Maudsley, but I am not definitely sure. |

Maudslay Mogul looks similar? However the radiator looks earlier than the following example. 1953 Mogul the cab is by Park Royal. Photo by Richard Haughey. ![]() |

A few years after AEC absorbed Maudslay (and Crossley) in 1948 to become ACV, hitherto standard AEC designs began to appear with Maudslay badges. Many of these chassis were actually built at the Maudslay factory in Alcester, but took the standard AEC model names such as Mammoth Major, Mandator, Mercury etc. Traditional Maudslay model names were resurrected for use on AEC chassis, for example Majestic, Merlin, Militant & Mogul, to name a few. The subject vehicle appears too lightweight to be a Mandator, therefore I suggest it could be a Maudslay Monarch Mk IIIA. I've put up a picture of one here http://www.aecsouthall.co.uk/mmonarch3_pke42.jpg for comparison. With reference to the GPO vehicle in Richard's photo, it is a Maudslay Mogul Mk IIIA. It's nice to have a heading for Maudslay! Neil -- Last edit: 2008-06-02 22:45:19 |
