This is a racing Avion Voisin C3C of 1922 .This particular car bearing number 6 was driven to the second place in the Grand Prix de l'Automobile Club de France in Strasbourg in 1922 by Duray. These Voisins were powered by the potent valveless 4 liter engine developing 120 horsepower. The reason why and when the car is being pulled here in the stands by two horses is unclear because it did finish the race.Maybe the cars had to be pulled or manhandled to the starting grid? .Anyhow a very interesting period document. |

Very interesting ! Obviously all the cars were pulled by horses to join the starting grid as shown in Mr Truche's book "Grand Prix de l'A.C.F. STRASBOURG 1922" (sometimes on Ebay) where there is a pic of a Bignan (french racing car) is the same situation. Of course, the few seconds where we can see a period movie about Avions Voisin are always a great pleasure ! Tha278 http://perso.wanadoo.fr/automobiles-voisin/ |
