Austin export model from England. "The Austin Cambrian was the North American export model of the Austin Cambridge. There were two models of the car; one based on the A55mk1 'Pre-Farina' and the other on the later 'Farina' model." |

Interesting, I thought the only British cars they exported to America in that period were the sought-after luxury marques like Jaguar, Bentley and Rolls-Royce. |

Unusual, I never knew this was an export to canada/usa either |

I believe its number plate is from British Columbia, Canada but am not 100% certain. |

Part of the movie was filmed on Vancouver Island, British Columbia. |

Also for me was a novelty;I would knew before the Aussie's Austin Freeway, the Argentinian SIAM Di Tella 1500,but never had heard before that almost forgotten Austin Cambrian(I hypotize as at BMC had got specific back end logo:they had worked and cutted Cambridge name logo that becomes Cambri...and welding to them another "a" and and a "m",without a "leg",cutted for become it a "n"...Easy,isn't it?) |

I don't think so, from what I can find, BC didn't use this style plate until '79. |

It seems to be a BC plate from 1963, 1965 or 1969. http://www.worldlicenseplates.com/jpglps/CN_BC_GI6_1960%27s.jpg |

That figures; this appears to be based on the 1961+ A60 [ADO38A], not the A55 [ADO9A]. -- Last edit: 2009-12-26 22:07:30 |

Also sold here were Ford Cortinas, Sunbeams, Hillmans and probably a few other makes I'm forgetting. |

Canada was a Commonwealth territory so had stronger links - and reduced import tariffs - compared to US, but there weren't many examples of early-mid 60s UK stuff which only went to CDN - North America was usually treated as a single export territory. However when 1968 onwards US safety and emissions laws killed a lot of UK exports (eg Cortinas and Rootes stuff as ^, plus Minis, ADO16, and a fair number of low-volume sports things like TVR, Morgan etc) trade with CDN continued in its own right until they brought in similar standards in 73/74 onwards. By that time some UK makes (eg MG, Triumph, Rolls, Jag, Jensen) had developed US compatible versions and were able to continue in CDN as well. Other stuff (eg Minis, Cortina, Rovers etc) dropped out of Canada 73-ish. Later in 70s and into 80s some UK makes returned to US (and CDN) with special North American engineered versions - eg Rover and Range Rover, Morgan, Aston Martin. In some cases this was because by then they had new models which were engineered from the start to be US-compatible - eg Jensen Healey (and amongst makes which hadn't left US - Triumph TR7, Jag XJS are good examples of US-prioritised designs). |

In this part of the movie you can briefly spot two other very rare UK cars, a white Sunbeam Arrow (Hunter) and a light blue Envoy Custom (Vauxhall Vicyor F relative) |
