This car belongs to Ralph Cifaretto (Joe Pantoliano) and appears in scenes in episodes 3.06, 3.13 and 4.03 (and possibly 3.04, there's an interior shot of Ralph driving with Jackie Jr), but only gets minor use. In episode 1.9 "Boca", Silvio sits in a Mark VIII while waiting for the call to whack a pervert high school coach, but Tony calls it off. -- Last edit: 2012-10-23 21:35:45 |

Notice the green license plate. I think it says New Jersey but I thought they were yellow? |

It might be a blue license plate, such as this one (which was made in '79). |

I guess it's a blue one then. I just did some quick research and the blue NJ plates were used from 1979 to 1993. http://www.15q.net/nj.html -- Last edit: 2007-01-17 01:11:07 |

With American cars, do the license plates on old cars get replaced with new ones (with the same registration of course) if say, the old one rusts? It's that on this page there's a few 80s cars with the newer styler yellow/white NJ plates, when the 80s ones were blue. I think a lot of the plates on cars in this show are fake (you may notice that various cars use the same registration), but do you sometimes find old cars in the USA with new style plates? |

Yes, seeing an older car here with newer license plates is quite common here across the pond. -- Last edit: 2010-09-13 03:33:48 |

Here in the States, the licenses plate has to be replaced if the old one becomes unreadable, rusted or severely bent / damaged. |

This site may be very helpful in identifying how old an American car is, but then I think many films uses fake license plates in the way they use fake telephone numbers. http://www.15q.net/usindex.html |

The car could also have new plates because it was sold and the new owner would have to register the car in their name, which usually means new plates. |

In some states, the license plates stay with the car (such as in California) and usually don't get replaced unless they're illegible. In other states (such as Nevada), the plate stays with the owner so it's not uncommon to see a newer car with an older plate. But recently, some states issued a new plate for everyone and made the old plates illegal. |
