Only seen in a photograph in episode 3.02, but very likely to be seen again in the third series, particularly in the final episode. Inverted here and lightened... ![]() I've discounted a few British coupés (or convertibles) but the closest I can find with the very long door length is a Jaguar XJ-S perhaps. The rear wheel arch looks too large, damaged perhaps or distorted due to the accident? |

Could be American - if this is all we ever see of it, chances are it's a photo library shot. |

What about a granada coupe? |

wheels & shape of arches make me think to a MGB |

Door are too small for MGB & Midget has that curved line from the sill. Triumph Spitfire has a bonnet release on front wing. |

I first thought of a 1970s Chevrolet Camaro. The size seemed about right and the rear bumper (if it is visible looked typically GM) but the door length compared to the wheelbase does not match I believe. Likewise the Granada coupe's door is shorter and there is more panel-work behind the door since in is essentially a four-door chassis with slightly lengthened front doors. Its true it may not actually represent an actual car in the series and be just a suitable photograph found by the production team. The style of the wheels interest me but they are not clear enough to see them fully. I guess we can leave it until the final episode and if necessary add it to the comments. -- Last edit: 2010-04-12 16:18:09 |

Might be a Pontiac, for example either a 1969 Firebird or a 1970-1972 Tempest/LeMans/GTO |

I'm starting to conclude now that it is a 1970s GM 'F-body' either a Camaro or Firebird. By the lack of any dummy side-grilles or vents the nearest I can find is a 1970-72 Camaro or Firebird. In addition to the rear of the car the rear bumper also looks similar to the Camaro or even the later Firebird. The Tempest/LeMans looks an altogether larger car with the rear wheel further back from the rear of the door. There is also a badge visible on the front side (between the wheel and the door) in the correct position for the Camaro and Firebird. ![]() http://www.flemingsultimategarage.com/galleria_images/882/882_main_f.jpg http://www.freewebs.com/texasrodz/firebird_3.jpg |

Just browsing e-bay for affordable classics and stumbled across this Link to "cgi.ebay.co.uk" could the car in the river be this Mk 2 1976 Ford Capri Ghia? The wheels look similar and the badge on the wing by the door. and the Capri was based on American Muscle cars of the 60s and early 70s. Or am I barking up the wrong tree because its the same colour as Gene's Cortina? |

The car is possibly a US GM coupe (possibly a 1984 Chevrolet Malibu) but its a photograph has been modified a lot. The picture is 'photo-shopped' from an actual accident in the 1980s near Niagara in Canada as confirmed on "The Railway Arms" Lfe on Mars and Ashes to Ashes forum/website. Confirmed by the library holding the original image. http://domeofstars.com/forum/index.php?topic=8591.45 |

Niagara Falls Public Library link to the un-modified photograph... http://www.nflibrary.ca/nfplindex/show.asp?id=102236&b=1 The following link possibly works for non-members... Link to "domeofstars.com" "Niagara Falls Public Library Where our photos end up..... We have a lot of requests from newspapers, magazines, movie companies, publishers, web site developers, and individuals to use our photos. One of them of a car crash in Chippawa ended up on a site called The Railway Arms, Your #1 Source for Life on Mars & Ashes to Ashes. Discussion about our... pic starts around pg. 4" -- Last edit: 2010-05-23 13:22:58 |

I'm not convinced by the Niagra falls photoshopped idea. Is this verified for sure? Why photoshop the underside to look so different, and change the wheels and just about everything, in fact? Looks more like a Camaro to me, which the Niagra falls image doesn't. The river bank does look very similar though. Maybe they photoshopped the location in? |

I think it's the same incident as http://www.nflibrary.ca/nfplindex/show.asp?id=102236&b=1 but not the same photo. It's taken from a different side (above/below) the incident and the library photo has 2 cars side by side, presumably being recovered by the chain. So the A-to-A photo is probably the far car, and taken slightly later after the near car has been recovered |
