An early Shelby Cobra with the 289 engine. Basically a re-engined AC.
Note the badge on the fender...it says "Powered by Ford".

Later 427-powered Cobras had large fender flares in the rear to accomodate wider racing tires.

I think the correct name would be AC Shelby 289 Cobra.

Even after doing research on the net I'm not sure of the exact name for the cars...were they regigistered as AC, Shelby, or AC Shelby...? Beats me!

It's a 289 Shelby Cobra, earlier cars with the 260 CID motor lacked the side vents. IIRC Cobras were sold in they states as Shelby Cobras but in the UK as AC Cobras.

Its an AC 260 or 289. My family owned the car and also the car company, AC Cars. My Sir name is Hurlock. Please check it out 1930 to 1986. Shelby has been having a free ride off our product for too many years. Unbelievable!!

No free ride. The AC Cars firm was on the verge of leaving the automotive manufacturing business, when Carroll Shelby chose the AC Ace to base his company's new sports car on. His engineers and fabricators adapted the Ace to accept more power from the Ford motors, and suggested modifications to steering and suspension to handle better at higher speeds. At worst, Mr. Hurlock, the two companies were benefiting from each other. Without the Cobra and Shelby American, AC Cars would have been known by only a tenth of the world who learned about them through the Cobra program, and would have gone under, many years earlier. There would have been no 1962 to 1986 AC Cars history if Carroll Shelby hadn't come to your family, and asked them to help produce a car for his company.
