With a British speciality, a plate, sized only for that model (a similar/same is available for the Jaguar S-Type). Does it costs extra charge? It seems, that the most British Rover 75-owners are choosing them, because the most 75's, you see on the streets, have them. -- Last edit: 2010-10-19 19:56:49 |

The Vauxhall Omega on the right is a 1999/2000 model. To identify by the headrests. |

I was also always curious how does it work - these plates (but on the newest cars you do not see them so often, like for example 10 years ago, or maybe I'm wrong). -- Last edit: 2010-10-19 19:59:23 |

Dealers put the plates on cars. All Rover and Jaguar dealers would put on these plates. If the plate is broken and comes off then quite often people will just replace them with the normal plates. |

I have also seen this-plate-size in the new style, so with the EU- or the country-logo on the left side. Btw.: in Britain you have quite a lot of possibilities for choosing plates. You still can get the old version without a flag (I think so?), also the EU-stars, the Union Jack, the St.Andrews Cross, the St.George Cross and the Red Dragon. |

I think these special size/shape plates do cost extra. Historically they were supplied by Rover dealers on P4, P5 and P6 models, and IIRC by Jaguar dealers on XK120s, 140s and 150s as well as certain XJs. |

@ingo: yes, we are allowed to specify plates without the EU strip. We can also have Jamaican flags, Pakistani symbols ... (although I'm not sure that they're legal). |

Found this: http://www.craigsplates.com/shaped-rear-number-plate.html Shows various rear numberplate types available. |

Nice link. Perhaps it would be more simple if dealer would mount just a "plastic backround" for plate in the same yellow color. |

National flags and identifiers that can be displayed on UK number plates (Road Vehicles - Display of Registration Marks 2009). Flags: The Union Flag The Cross of St George The Cross of St Andrew (also know as the Saltire) The Red Dragon of Wales Identifiers: England or ENG Scotland or SCO Wales Cymru or CYM United Kingdom or UK Great Britain or GB However when travelling outside the UK the 'GB' version with the EU symbol is the only legal country representation unless a separate oval GB plate is also used. Also this is for DVLA registrations, the other regions with different systems (Northern Ireland, Isle of Man etc.) have different requirements. |
