In a Season 4 episode Dylan says his Porsche is a '61. |

Is this a real Porsche or a replica? Were/Are replicas widely available for these very pretty Speedsters? |

Dashboard and steering wheel are not those of a real Speedster, so no doubt this is one of the many replicas. By the way, the Speedster wa built in 1955-1958, so this cannot be a 1961 model. |

Again a character in a t.v. or a movie misstates the model year of a vehicle. Why the hell does this happen so much? |

In the 6 seasons of Beverly Hills 90210 they used three cars but the main one was a 356 B Coupe cut down (Speedster windshield and side chrome moldings installed). The season Luke came back he sold a CMC (or Intermeccanica?) as his car but his wife was killed in the modified 356 B.(Season 6 Episode 10). -- Last edit: 2012-01-14 23:50:25 |

For example from the Belgian(?) company APAL. I think, there are a few manufactures more. As I know the most of these replica's have plastic bodies. |

Hey guys. New here. Speedoo is correct, except that there were a total of 4 cars used on the show. Now I'm not a big car guy, but I've researched this meticulously and with your help, I've manage to figure it all out. In the first season, Dylan started with a 50's 356 Speedster which I am 99.9% sure was the car used in 48 hours that you guys say was built by CMC. Like I said, I'm almost positive. Starting in season two, for whatever reason, the car was switched for the 63? Porsche 356 that had its windshield changed to a 50's speedster WS. That was the car used most throughout the history of the show. This is also the car used in the Janet Jackson video in 1993 and the same car used in Beverly Hills Cop III. I'm 100% of both those claims. In season 4 episode 6, as pictured above by Wickey, Dylan is driving a completely different 50's Speedster replica, which is the one that breaks down on him, leading to his purchase of the modern silver 911 that he gets carjacked in. This car is only seen in one episode. When Dylan later goes back to his " Speedster ", it's once again the 63? 356 T6? It's in this car that he drives off the cliff after smoking dust and its in this car that I believe his wife gets shot in, and it is this car; the customized 356 Porsche that is hanging from the ceiling at the Planet Hollywood in Mirtle Beach, NC. You can google image Mirtle Beach planet Hollywood Porsche and you'll see the images of the Porsche, hanging inside the restaurant. In the restaurant it's labeled as Dylan's 61 Porsche later Luke Perry leaves the show and when he returns, he repairs his "speedster's" windshield which was shot up from the incident when his wife got killed. Upon his return to the show, it is once again a whole new 50's speedster replica, never used on the show. After Dylan repairs it twice, he finally sells it and ends the history of the Dylan McKay Porsche on BH 90210. To end this I'll say that although they started with a 50's speedster replica, the real eye catcher of the show, the car most people remember as Dylan's speedster, was actually the converted 356, the real rare and sought after car that is now hanging from the ceiling at planet Hollywood NC -- Last edit: 2017-01-01 04:09:43 |

The episode number should be changed to 1.02 because this character is not introduced until the second episode. |

Hello. I’m very late to the game on this topic but I have had an obsession with this Porsche since I was 11. (Hence my username). So I have some thoughts regarding the 90210 porsche 356. I know that the 356A Speedster replica was used during the 1st season. The converted 1964 356C “speedster” was used in the 2nd & 3rd season although the 356a replica is in the later episodes of season 3. There is an episode that aired sometime in March or April of 1993 in which the car is shown going down the road and it appears to be a 356a but with the B/C type front bumper. This one confuses me. Then, as mentioned before, the 356A replica is used all throughout season 4 although anytime the outside of the character’s house was shown, we see the C type speedster. Then in season 5 is where I get very curious. In the episode where Dylan drives the Porsche off the cliff, he’s driving the 356C car. However, now the car has the Porsche 356 side mirror and no bumper guards on the front or rear whereas, in seasons 2 & 3, it had a Talbot racing mirror and bumper guards. So I wonder if this was, in fact, the same car or a different one. In season 6, it’s back to the 356a again. If you look closely, when Dylan’s wife was killed, she was actually driving the 356a, not the 356C/T6. Then, in season 9, I can’t tell if it was the same 356a replica that they’d used before or a completely different one. I’d have to watch the episodes again but I’m guessing it’s a different one. Anyway, just my thoughts on the subject. I wish there was more information on these cars; especially the T6/356C. I’d love to see before and after photos of when they chopped the coupe and converted it to a speedster. I’ve always liked that one best. I searched for a model of it to build for a long time until I read an article in a car magazine about that car and then I realized that it was never a production model so there was no chance of finding a model kit of it. -- Last edit: 2022-12-10 17:45:15 |
