How do you tell a Cowley from an Oxcart at this distance? I think the one in the thumb might be a later Mark. |

Oxford usually had front-fender-to-front-door side slat. |

Oh, confirmed here. "This car is not a Morris Oxford, but the cheaper version, a Morris Cowley. Recognition points, no chrome strips in radiator grille, in windscreen surround, and along flanks of car". (john from Staffs) |

Production Oxford II 87,341 units, Cowley 17,413 units. The Cowley had the 1200 cc engine from the A40 Somerset, vinyl upholstery, smaller brakes, and a 5.125 to 1 rear axle. The Oxford had the 1500 cc engine from the A50 Cambridge, leather, a heater as standard, and a 4.875 to 1 rear axle. All that for £40 in 1955 when my Dad bought his Cowley! |

I've just got round to looking at the thumb. It's a Series II Oxford, note the radiator grille and the chrome strip along the front wing. IIRC the overriders were standard on Oxfords and extra on Cowleys. |
