300 SEL 6.3 [W109]?? Lighting detail very similar to /vehicle_483599-Mercedes-Benz-300-SEL-63-W109.html .

It sits very low, so it should have air suspension, and thus is a 300 SEL [W109]. Also the hubcaps points towards this is a 1968+.
Other than that I don't know. The additional fog lights only says it has additional fog lights...

Besides, how can you be sure the car in the link is a 300 SEL 6,3? There were at least two more [W109] with figures on the right hand side of the boot, namely 300 SEL 3,5 and 300 SEL 4,5.
The only thing that hints that that is a 300 SEL 6,3 is that it's on display with other sports cars.

Because that car's boot badge is legible as 6.3 in /vehicle_483127.html . As for this car, it seems to be a 68 for the particular lighting format, so first question is what versions of 300SEL were sold in US that year.

Rear of this Mercedes . Also noticed the whole chase scene ivolving this mercedes and a white Corvette is taken from the movie "Double Nickles" which isn't yet released on DVD !!! (IMO it could be only the begiing part from which the main pic is taken was filmed for the TV show while the rest is taken from DOUBLE NICKELS (see Youtube) )

Entering as ordinary 1968 300 SEL before it disappears. The other point about this car is the massive radiator grille - seems much bigger than normal 280/300. Did 6.3 have a bigger/taller grille? What about 3.5/4.5 saloon grilles - the coupe/convertibles definitely got a wider/squatter grille?

No, the wider grille for the W108/109 came for the 1968 MY, and that for all models.
The visible, original details for the 6.3 were:
- double exhaust pipe
- wider tires on the BBS-"Barock"-alloys
- extra fog lights in combination with the four round headlights (but a popular extra for all W108 anyways)
- the little rev.counter

So this car has a doble exhaust pipe, so probably a 6.3. Otherwise it has steel rims with hubcaps, and I don't know, if they were allowed for the 6.3, because it's written, that the BBS "Barock"-allows were take for it, because the regular (1968+) steel-wheels weren't solid enough for the power of the engine.

Wow, ingo, so the standard steel wheels fail because of the mighty 6.3? Fracture, warp ,etc.?

I'm caretaker for a 1967 Mercedes 250 SE [W108.014], and that has, and also had originally, two exhaust pipes. While the 250 S had only one. Other than that I don't know.
When looking around the internet I found this strange car with hubcaps and single exhaust pipe http://www.v12-gt.com/MERCEDES-BENZ/300-SEL-6.3 .

I still think there is something to be discovered about the grille sizes - zodiac's link goes to what I would call (rightly or wrongly) a 3.5 or 4.5 low/wide grille (maybe the wrong photo for the car?). But we may have some mis-identifications amongst our 300 SELs as well which makes comparisons difficult - eg is /vehicle_8274-Mercedes-Benz-300-SEL-35-W109-1970.html with what I think is a low narrow grille definitely a 3.5, and if so why? Happy to be proved wrong with these ideas, but at the moment I guess there's still some unanswered issues.

Not only the wheel. The manual gearbox and the clutch, too. They tried it even with parts from the truck-programme, but they failed, too. So for that reason the 6.3 is always an automatic.

They can be answered. I have little pile of literature about the 6.3 and the details were described in some articles very attentively.

 Hmm, it's seems, that there were no other visible details, unique for the 6.3. I just have checked the articles. No different body parts, thicker trims or so, nothing. It has serial 205'-tires, that's the only detail, we haven't mentioned until now.

While this chase is indeed stolen, it isn't from DOUBLE NICKELS, but from SPEEDTRAP.

(There IS a copy of Double Nickels on YouTube mistakenly titled "Speedtrap". Maybe you're talking about that, mike962.)
