The Polara was the cheaper cousin of the Monaco, so it didn't take off in the police force market like the Monaco did. A 1977 CHP Monaco packing a 440ci Magnum Hemi tied it on with a 4 barrel carb, set speed records that stand to this day. These are mocked Polara vehicles to look mildly like her beefier cousins. |

Except the 1977 Monaco was the midsize B-body and not the fullsize C-body that the Polara was. The Polara also faced more competition in the police car market, while in 1977, Chrysler pretty much had the whole market to themselves as Ford and GM didn't have high-performance models and AMC exited the police car market. |
