Defender 110 |

Well the Jeep above can confuse you coz its front grille is that of the Defender 110, thats right! However as one can see the door handles are that of the old Land Rover series 3. Most probably it had a modified front. The vehicle over-taking it is the new Range Rover. |

In some markets (South Africa for one) the Series III grille was moved forward to fit a straight 6 engine from the Rover SD. Not a 110, more likely a late Series III six. -- Last edit: 2007-02-04 02:12:08 |

I Think Cista is right. |

Could be the STAGE ONE...a Series III w/ v8? |

It is an early Land-Rover One-Ten (1983). The 1953-style doorhandles were only replaced by more orthodox types in 1987. |

This is a Land Rover defender "Wolf" that are built for the british army. It's basically a modified 110. |

I remember working on the "Wolf". The problem was they had 24 volt electrics and everything had to be either water-proofed or removable. |

So should the army Land-Rovers on the site be renamed Wolf in the extra information name then? |

Not all of them; I think the Wolf is a relatively recent creation. Probably best to leave it to an expert like Alexander ![]() |

'Wolf' was an active project in Land Rover in 1994 - before that date I am not certain. |

Chris is right, only recent XD models got the nickname 'Wolf'. Neither Land Rover, nor the MOD calls it that, but the common soldier does and so does the Land-Rover fan community. The German Army equivalent, the Mercedes-Benz 250 GD Wolf, uses the same name, this time officially. I cannot say if there is a connection, i.e. a NATO code name. All the other Land-Rover delivered to the British Army had no nicknames, with the exception of the Piglet, an armoured version mainly used in Northern Ireland. |

Ws the Piglet like this: http://www.mfhf.se/galleri/albums/userpics/10001/lrovpig1.jpg If yes i have seen a few (living on a British army base i see many MOD vehicles) using the more modern 110 body instead of series 3, ready to go over to Iraq........one came back, and im not joking, with a giant bullet hole n the windscren ![]() |

This is very definitely a military Land Rover One-Ten. If it was a Wolf it would have the spare wheel mounted high on the side of the vehicle, not on the bonnet, and if it was a Series 3 it would not have he wheel arch 'eyebrows'. |
