Does GH stand for George Harrison? LEnnon was an Iso fan too. |

Mike Hailwood has 2 Grifos - this yellow one and a red one. It looks as if he had this one (#162D) delivered to him in UK but he promptly took it home to ZA, where it was written off in a collision with a water buffalo. It was eventually repaired, but stored for 25 years, restored and sold to a German buyer in 2007. Then sold at auction in 2011 with a record Grifo price of $267,000. His red one was a 66 car (#88D), and only 26 RHD S1 cars were made. Confirmed as GL350, chassis 162/D and Hailwood's 2nd Grifo after 1966 chassis 081/D (not 088/D as above) which was white, later red and then returned to white. A lot of confusion about which or both Grifos went to ZA, and which had the water buffalo collision. See discussion for another sighting here, but don't expect much clarity except that this is definitely 162/D. |
