In 1965 Volvo introduced the "System 8", where differences to eight significant areas were introduced. And because of the hard life of heavy vehicles, I doubt this is older than nine years. There were two engine alternatives, partly a 7 litre (TD 70?) and partly a 10 litre (TD 100?), where the 7 litre were used in N 86 and the 10 litre in N 88. N = Normalbyggd (= SWE engine in front of the cabin). The N 86 was usually used in lighter transportation while the N 88 (not rarely fitted with two rear axles) were used in longer haulage and when transporting timber. I believe this is very likely a N 88. |
