Think I can make-out the Maserati 'trident' on the front. |

It might be a Maserati 150S See: http://www.collectorsdesign.it/upload/7.jpg but some details are different. -- Last edit: 2006-04-07 17:44:47 |

I have some doubts now that this is a Maserati 150S, as there are probably so many differences.... |

Hello, this is not a Maserati but an Ermini, with engine modified from Fiat 1100. Please seen: http://www.vea.qc.ca/vea/marques1/ermini.htm You can seen the car of the movie in the actual Mille Miglia with Mr.Paoletti: Link to "www.barchetta.cc" Bye |

It is an Ermini 357, built in 1955. Its engine is 1500 cm3. If you think it's very nice, well... its body was designed by Scaglietti :-) You can find other photos of the car here: http://www.erminiautomobili.it/ermini-357.html |

By the time Ermini was building the Model 357, he was building his own engines rather than modifying the Fiat. Compare this with "car 12" also in thumbnail in the pix for this movie. It also is an Ermini 357. Note the more sloping nose. This is an artifact from the coach builder; the more rounded nose is seen on pix from Italy. The sloping nose is the one from which Bill Devin took a mold for his fiberglas bodies. The color pic on the Officine Ermini site www.erminiautomobili.it is one I took of that car in 1957 when it was raced by a friend of mine. For a while Martin Rudow had a site expanding on his book "Long Straights and Hairpin Turns". This and othe pix I took were on that site. The site may be gone, but you can email Martin about it. An "air car", simulation, or lookalike car purporting to be that Ermini now circulates in the US but has no part of it from the original or even recreating the original. A pity. |
