I nearly didn't record the movie because the review said the acting was so bad.....but it was incredible just seeing the racing footage...well worth it.....this period was well before my time but it was more interesting than a lot of the more recent racing.

I've lost count the number of times I've seen it (the movie) now....

I'm on the lookout for the other Aston Martin - I'll post it next if I can. :)

Hello Folks, I've really enjoyed the vehicles from Checkpoint that you have posted. I saw the movie in 1957 in a theater in the USA. I had just gotten hooked on sports car racing at Marlboro Motor Raceway (http://www.na-motorsports.com/Tracks/MD/Marlboro.html and http://sports.groups.yahoo.com/group/Marlboro_Raceway/), in Maryland just outside Washington DC, in 1955 and I think I watched Checkpoint 4 or 5 times at the theater near my home where it was showing. I've been trying to track it down for quite a while now, but couldn't remember the title - I was pretty sure it was a one word title, but thought it was Racing, or Racers. Now that I have identified it properly, I'd like to watch it again to see if the racing and practice scenes were as good as I thought they were when I was 17 years old in 1957, but see that no VHS or DVD has ever been released, at least none that I have been able to locate.

I would greatly appreciate it if any of you have any ideas about how I could obtain a VHS or DVD of Checkpoint. I have a universal region DVD player which plays PAL format OK; however, I cannot play PAL VHS video, but I want to see this film again so much, I am willing to pay to convert a PAL VHS, if I can obtain one somehow, to NTSC format to watch it on my VCR. Thanx so much for any help any of you Checkpoint fans can provide me.

dickie, Following your post about wanting a copy of 'Checkpoint' I've been searching for my recording that the pictures were taken from. Unfortunately I don't believe I still have the disc that had the film on from April of this year when it was shown on UK TV. Although it was good enough to get the pictures of the cars, the recording was not complete because there was some picture break-up in the middle and at the end (it was taken from a digital-terrestrial broadcast and the signal was not that good). As a result I probably ditched the disc. I will continue to look for it but sadly I think its gone. The only chance I think is if it would be repeated again on TV as I cannot find that any DVD or video is available in the UK.

I still have my copy from TV ...but I don't think it's a good idea to start dealing/trading in dvd/video's on this site.! (sorry)
this is the IMCDB policy :- (quote from our Help page)
"Do you sell movies? Do you sell vehicles? Can I download a movie from your site? "
No. As said above this site is only for information purpose, we do not sell anything, and do not distribute any movie.

I never had any intention to buy a movie from this site. I am only using it to contact others who have an appreciation for Checkpoint to explore the possibility of locating a video or DVD of the movie, then conduct the transaction directly. I entered my email address when I registered on the site, but I don't know how, if at all, another person can get access to it. The registration instructions said it is a good idea to enter an email address if you plan to participate in the forums, so apparently, contact between participants can be accomplished in a forum.

If you would be willing to discuss this directly with me, please let me know how I could contact you, or you me, through the site (I do not want to list my personal email in a comment on the site here), and I will never mention the topic of obtaining a viewable copy of Checkpoint on the site here again. Thanx.

A background car seen briefly but not identified so separate listing removed...

Grille and front are only visible during 'wipe' transition from the previous scene.

Also two racing cars only partially seen, possibly the same model but not identified...
Number 4? and number 38.

DVD review in Classic and Sportscar (UK magazine) July 2011 issue, page 56. Says David Brown loaned a pair of Lagonda V12 prototypes "after failing in competition" to director Ralph Thomas, and they were rebadged as Warren-Ingrams. Race footage is 1956 Mille Miglia, but because Aston/Lagonda did not enter, the Le Mans-style start had to be a specially staged event filmed in Florence.
