Amphicar is the brand name, 770 the model name, German product, manufactured 1961 - 68. |

The car that was used in, and then cut from the finished film, Factotum, is a 1967 Amphicar 770, the only model of Amphicar, made in Germany 1961-1968, by Amphicar, a separate entity from other car companies of the day. Factotum was filmed in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The car is owned by a Minneapolitan, and used in the water, on a regular basis. There are at least 20 Amphicars in Minnesota, many are used when the lakes are not frozen. Of course, they could be used on top of the water, in the winter, but a convertible really isn't that much fun on ice. Plus, Amphicars have a fairly lousy heater/defroster system. It is minus 11F as I write this. |
