No, it's one of those Austin/Van Den Plas/Princess cars. |

Yes! A 4-litre Princess according to my encyclopedia... |

1960-68 Austin Vanden Plas Princess, I believe...but not certain how its listed with the different names/models. |

In my book they list it under Vanden Plas. But they mention that the Austin A 135 Princess is the same model since 1952... |

According to this, the name of "Austin" was dropped & sold as Vanden Plas Princess from July 1960. http://www.vpoc.info/History.htm (...and there is no "A" hood mascot in this picture...) |

Vanden Plas Princess was the longer-wheelbase version of the Austin A135 Princess |

should be under Austin as its a carry over of the old Austin Sheerline limo..Van Den Plas isnt a vehicle name..its a coachbuilder who converted regular cars into luxury versions, usually by adding a fancy grille, woodwork and leather..re the Austin Allegro " Van Den Plas". |

Drawing from Wiki, etc, the BMC board recognised Vanden Plas as a motor manufacturer in its own right from the late-1950s. I presume this is a 1957 Mark III when the Austin badging was dropped, so it wasn't Austin by name. From 1968 the name Vanden Plas was no longer a brand, it was a model. |

This actually seems to be a Mk.IV, produced between 1956 to 1968. The head lights were smaller seal beam units. the Mk IIIs have P100 type head lights though hey were also integrated into the front fender. The name of this car evolved from Austin Sheerline to Austin Princess. In 1960 it was officially known as Vanden Plas Princesses. |

incidentally, because this was a small volumn model it changed little over its production life. It is hard to tell its vintage. |

So what should we use as full name (year+make+model) for the car, finally? ![]() -- Last edit: 2007-01-01 12:34:15 |

It is probably best referred to as an Austin Princess Mk IV, because even when it was officially called a Vanden Plas 4 liter most people still associate it as an Austin Vanden Plas Princess 4 liter. |

Just checked Classic Cars 1945-1970, it is referred to as a Vanden Plas Princess 4 litre limousine from 1956 onwards. |

Also the radiator does not have the Austin Badge or the flying A mascot. So this is a Vanden Plas Princess 4 liter. |
