I expect this is a British Army truck (probably made in Canada or USA) as its filmed during or before 1942. The troops look happy to be in a British Truck! |

If it is in North Africa, filmed during or before 1942, probably CMP British Army truck with italian markings and Italian troops it doesn't fit with the other parts of the film! How that piece of film was obtained and issued by Ministry of Information for showing to the cinema-goers in Britain is really strange, when everything shown was intended to encourage British workers to support the troops. |

Another possibility is that they are Italian POWs in UK - by 1942 there were several camps across Britain which used these POWs for civil labour (eg farm work etc). Security was fairly relaxed as there were no real escape attempts and there was a lot of integration with local communities. However I can't decide if this photo has any guns in it - if it does, forget the POW idea - and I'm not totally sure the POWs would wear full uniform as they went off to work (although whatever they're wearing doesn't seem to have any badges). So a suggestion to shoot holes in, not a definite explanation. |

The truck enters a gap in a barbed-wire fence (so possibly surrounding a compound). No British guards or troops are I think seen, also the other soldier inside the barbed-wire appears to be in similar uniform to those inside the truck. It appears to be overseas and not in the UK? So possibly the truck has already passed through the guard-post and the POWs were asked to smile for the filming? |

They are British troops, happy to be riding not marching ! Truck is an early CMP Ford or Chevy 3 tonner in desert colours with British markings. -- Last edit: 2015-09-30 11:01:28 |
