I would also agree on one of the 1912 3 litre ( 2996 cc developing 73,7 bhp)"Coupe de l!Auto" racing Sunbeams .It was derived from the 12-16.

Guys, sorry, this is NOT a Sunbeam 12-16 H.P. competing in the June, 1912 Coupe de l'Auto in Dieppe. Why not? Each Sunbeam had an easily read number on the radiator. Each Sunbeam used Michelin artillery wheels and although in this picture the wheels on the road could be turning quite fast and appear to be wires, the spare is not and it is mounted too far forward. The shape of the rear of the body looks wrong, as does the radiator, which is sitting too far back (the Coupe de l'Auto racers' radiators were mounted ahead of the chassis cross-member). Having said all that, I have no clue as to what it really is. I have a 1914 12-16 with a Coupe de l'Auto-style racing engine (one of three extant)and I've done a lot of research in recent times. Happy to tell you more if you're interested.

A further note; look elsewhere on this site and you'll see the same car from a different angle (/vehicle_95330-unknown.html). It's chain-driven and that's a bit improbable for 1912. After all, it's just a movie...

I have to agree with lastcardlouis comments about the two listings. From the details seen they do appear the same car.

I would guess however the car pictured here is from film footage of an actual race. The other pictures in close-up ( /vehicle_95330-unknown.html ) look to be shot for a movie using actors.

It appears that it should remain 'unknown' until an identification can be made.

The face of the driver leaves no doubt about that... Nevertheless, the car itself was an actual entrant in the 1912 French Grand Prix: #49 Rolland-Pilain driven by Albert Guyot (DNF due to engine failure).
